Used lithium batteries have hazardous properties that may result in unwanted chemical reaction in case of improper handling. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to handle the batteries with utmost caution.
Storage
- Lithium batteries shall be stored is a ventilated, dry and cold area, protected against weather and high temperatures.
ALWAYS HANDLE THE BATTERIES WITH EXTREME CAUTION – FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN SPONTANEOUS IGNITION OR EXPLOSION! - It is highly recommended to store batteries outside the main production or storage areas. If such conditions cannot be provided, always store the collection containers in such manner that they could be quickly and easily moved outside if necessary. Whenever possible, store the collection containers in an area under surveillance. Inspect the stored batteries regularly. Store the collection container away from source of ignition.

It is absolutely necessary to use the safety accessories for handling and storage of used, malfunctioning and damaged lithium batteries.
Storage and shipping containers
- Always store and transport batteries inside solid POWERBOXES provided or recommended by POWER BATTERY, s.r.o. that are labelled in accordance with ADR regulations.
Short circuit
It is necessary to prevent short circuiting in bare metal batteries, batteries with metal surfaces or with protruding metal contacts in following manner:
- packing the cells or batteries individually in bubble wrap or cling foil or
- insulating the metal components using insulation tape or
- using the original protective packaging
Physical damage
- Always handle the collection containers with maximum care, avoid impacts. Never transfer batteries from one container to another in bulk. Avoid physical damage to batteries. Use protective insulation materials or original protective packaging. Carefully place wrapped batteries into a collection container. Fill out empty spaces with dielectric and non-flammable materials and Vermiculite.

Immediately cover obviously damaged or malfunctioning batteries with a large amount of Vermiculite and inform an organization authorized for handling of this type of material without delay.
